Access and Permissions

Mailtrain offers a granular permission system to manage access to resources for large numbers of users. Below is a summary of the three levels of Mailtrain access. (add diagram)

Elevated Access (Superuser)

Superusers on Mailtrain are given elevated access to administration controls of the Mailtrain platform enable easy use for Directors and Captains. These features include:

  • Base Templates - Manage a set of base templates used by each committee. Committees have view access and can extend them in their own templates, but the base copies must be changed by superusers.
  • Global Settings - Global configuration that affects the entire platform
  • User profiles - Manage the users who log into Mailtrain
  • Namespaces - Manage namespaces that house lists/templates/campaigns for a particular committee
  • Send Configurations - Manage the technical configuration (FROM email address, mail server settings, etc.) available in each namespace
  • Blacklist - Manage entries in the global Mailtrain blacklist

Superusers also have administrator-level access to a parent namespace that encompasses each committee's own namespace. This gives them inherited administrator access to all lists/templates/campaigns available to each committee.

Director

Directors have access to the following resources within their committee's namespace:

Lists

  • Create lists in namespace
  • Bulk-import subscribers into lists
  • Create custom fields in lists
  • Create list segments

Templates

  • View base templates for committee
  • Create/edit templates in namespace that extend committee base templates

Campaigns

  • Create campaigns in namespace
  • Send campaigns in namespace
  • View campaign statistics

Captain

Capatins have limited access - they cannot manage lists or send campaigns. This is subject to change as Mailtrain rolls out to more users. Captains currently have access to the following resources:

Templates

  • View base templates for committee
  • Create/edit templates in namespace that extend committee base templates

Campaigns

  • Create campaigns in namespace
  • Send campaigns in namespace
  • View campaign statistics
